Optimistic Pessimist

by Yewi

After this week of midterms, my spring break will begin and I'll be heading to Maui with my brother and dad. I've apparently been to Hawaii once before but I was so little that I didn't remember any of it. A shame, really. But anyways, I'm so excited! My dad said we might rent individual mopeds. Hehehe.

I'm going to have to look into taking an MCAT prep course over the summer since there aren't any summer classes available for the courses I need to take before I graduate in the fall. And that way I can apply for Fall 2011 medical school instead of Spring 2012. Quite a ways away. It seems silly to be planning so far ahead into the future, especially when I'm one to change my mind about things fairly often.

What's also pretty ridiculous is that when I was little, and someone asked me if I wanted to be a doctor when I grow up, I would return an explicit no. I'm just not a fan of all of the blood and gore and responsibility over the life and death of the ill. Which is why I'm easing myself into the doctoring profession by striving towards radiology. According to my mom, I'll have minimal patient contact and I'll be analyzing images of the peoples' innards, cozy in a room to myself.

Although if I don't manage to get all the A's I need to be accepted into medical school, then I'll be just as screwed as my mom has been throughout all her life from all of her bad luck. I mean, yes, I'll have graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, but I can hardly be a teacher. I'm terrible at explaining things verbally and I have quite horrid public speaking anxiety. So. It's rather out of the question.

I guess the best thing I can do is just be optimistic.

Outside of yourself.

I can't say what may have changed this semester, but classmates are coming to me a lot to go study with them and I feel like I'm being a lot more social now that I'm scheduling time to meet up with different people every other day. I'm used to working alone, but I've found that it's nice to have someone there to throw ideas at and make sure that you really do have the right answer, as well as goof off and get to know each other. I'm finally at an age and relative maturity level that's similar to those around me and it's quite a relief.

Also, new drawing! This is probably my best in the technical sense out of all the drawings I've done so far, in my opinion. And I love it in general, but she makes me feel sad.

I don't know why, but this small view and the thumbnail versions on DeviantART each have a horizontal line on the bottom half, whereas the full view does not. SO. If you want to 1) not see this line and 2) see it in super detail, then you may view the full view here.

3.14

Happy Pi Day! Somehow I managed to score such a salutation on Facebook today on 3/14 at 3:14. Although, perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place, I've only been craving pie for the whole of the day. But! For some festive Pi Day entertainment, I bring you this special Pi Day song.

I think I'll try drawing something tonight before bed. But! I probably won't have enough time to finish it before I need sleep. But! It doesn't matter. I'm doing it anyway.

Oh, yes. I went there.

Not so silly.

by Virginia

Before yesterday I would have thought that having an absolute favorite of something seemed kind of silly, because so many things may be worth liking just as much as the other. Everyone's always changing their minds or discovering newer and better things, but what if you're just so sure that you've found your absolute favorite in your whole lifetime?

You know what, I think I just described finding 'the one'. Haha. That was unintentional.

What I'm meaning to mention here is that I came across a flower yesterday in the Trader Joe's entry way where they have a plethora to choose from and was suddenly overwhelmed with the most certain certainty you could think of that this flower is my absolute favorite flower of all time and forever will be. Why? I can't say, it's just how I feel.

The Cyclamen.

I think these flowers grow up and then turn upside down, but their petals still grow right side up. Like it's skydiving or something. See what I mean? Fargin' coolest flower ev-ar.

LOVEit.HATEit.

by Laina

I hate it when people say, "There's a reason for everything".
I hate that the sizing system for women's clothing doesn't make sense.
I hate that people think rain smells good.
I hate it when my salivating keeps me from falling asleep.
I hate it when parents spoil their kids.
I hate that I get headaches when I try to go brain dead.
I hate it when people undervalue themselves.
I hate that it's easy to do wrong and hard to do right.
I hate it when I'm taking off my jeans and my socks fall off.
I hate that a job is mandatory when all anyone wants to do is have fun.

I love it when people actually say "thank you".
I love it when there's so much fog that it's almost too dense to drive.
I love how it feels to writhe and stretch in the sheets before sleep.
I love it when the cat and I meow back and forth at each other.
I love how everyone is expressly unique from one another.
I love it when selfless people do good for others.
I love it when I can make a baby grin from a couple of goofy faces.
I love that I'm so close with my brother.
I love this YouTube video.
I love how just a flame from a candle can light a whole room.
I love it when someone takes the time to appreciate me.
